A high-ranking Russian general has been fatally wounded following an detonation in Moscow, according to an investigative body.

The attack took place on Monday morning when an bomb placed beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

The committee indicated that one possible explanation points to the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.

Location of the Attack

Teams have been dispatched to the scene, which is understood to be in a southerly district of the city.

Reports suggest the detonation occurred in a car park adjacent to a residential building.

History of Incidents

Since the onset of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military personnel have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.

This new event follows other serious incidents, including:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a bomb concealed on a scooter was set off from a distance.

While a source from Ukraine earlier linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.

The conflict has been marked by shadowy operations extending into the heart of the Russian capital.

The probe into General Sarvarov's death remains ongoing.
