Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.
By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
