Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
