An extensive two-month voyage around the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the personnel became aware the passenger was not present.

A major rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Master" banning any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

Timeline of Incidents

The ship first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the voyage - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

Family Statement

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the location after an scheduled excursion without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking group.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have done that might have preserved Her life".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"She was asked her to go back, alone. Then the vessel departed, reportedly without performing a roll call.

"During some point in that chain of events, or shortly after, she passed away, by herself."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "working closely with authorities to assist their examination".

He stated that the firm was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had extended its full support to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Standards

The vessel caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to company information. It was specifically designed to access isolated areas of the Australian shoreline and is outfitted with "small boats" - compact vessels used to transport passengers on land visits.

Events such as this are rare, and liners have systems to record which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard simply isn't an choice," an authority stated.

Cruise lines consider these methods extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to stop such incidents from taking place," the expert continued.
