England Bowling Consultant Southee Uncertain on The Ashes Availability
The bowler's last Test match for New Zealand was against England in the final month of 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The ex- New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the opening match because of his participation in the International League T20 tournament, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, aged 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.
Commenting as England's squad for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.
"We'll see the outcome over the coming days."
English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on 21 November.
"I don't think there's ever a bad Australian cricket team," Southee said.
"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [the English] side that's going out to the host country is excellent.
"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I think the whole cricket world is."
However, prior to the English team travel to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
