Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Worries.
'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.
The pace bowler added to the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.
The pace bowler pulled up with his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".
The series decider in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.
England have already lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.
A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.
The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.
He was omitted of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 as a batsman as one of just three England players to reach double figures.
Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.
However, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.
The English bowler returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
