The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
