The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
