The second-hand marketplace Members Express Frustration Over Size Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Response
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, located in Scotland, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: last year, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
