The Denver Nuggets star secured the league's MVP honor in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury late in the first half during an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

His teammate landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he instantly collapsed to the ground clutching his knee.

The star, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game before sustaining the injury.

Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.

"Immediately, Jokic realized something was wrong," stated Denver head coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who is injured, that's difficult, especially a player as special as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I am more worried about him as a person and the frustration of experiencing an event of that nature."
